World converged in Kampala for Tourism Expo 2017
World converged at the Kampala Sheraton gardens from 17th to 19th February 2017 for the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (P.O.A.T.E). This year’s event was organized by Uganda Tourism Board (U.T.B) under the theme “Tourism is everybody’s business”. Therefore, the sole purpose of this expo was to raise the profile of Uganda as a preferred destination hence linking travel agents, tour operators, hoteliers, and other service providers. The expo attracted hosted buyers and media personnel from Europe, USA, Africa, Australia, and Asia.
Furthermore, during this 2nd expo Ugandans showcased products offered from diverse bird species, big 7, adventure tourism, primates, and cultural tourism. Preceding the expo, hosted buyers and media group had 1-week long familiarization trip to Uganda’s national parks. They visited the Bwindi forest, Kibale, Semuliki, Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Kidepo valley national park.
The launching of the East African Tourism portal. The website is to link tourists to choose the services they need from Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda.
Tourism excellence awards climaxed the expo. Bwindi impenetrable national park scooped the award for best wildlife destination 2017. Kampala Serena Hotel scooped the award as the best luxury accommodation and Exhibitor.
