Gorilla naming ceremony dates announced. Rwanda Development Board announces the dates for the gorilla naming ceremony (Kwita Izina) which will take place on 1st September 2017. This communication was made by the RDB chief Tourism Officer Belise Kariza at a media breakfast in Kigali. She revealed that this year’s Kwita Izina ceremony will take a week with a series of events. Among which includes the fundraising dinner gala for conservation projects as well as a Conservation summit on 28th to 29th August 2017.

Rwanda recently increased the gorilla trekking permit fees from $750 to $ 1500 and $15000 for personalized mountain gorilla visits for a targeted gorilla family. Last year gorilla trekking activity contributed about Rwf15.6 billion. Gorilla trekking contributes 90% of the total tourism revenue in Rwanda. However, 5% of the tourism revenue is given towards community development projects. Rwanda Development Board is to launched 2 projects in education and healthcare this year.
