Detailed Itinerary for the 10 days Uganda Gorilla safari

Day 1: Arrival – Kampala

Arrival and transfer to Kampala at Holiday Express hotel for your overnight stay (B.B)

Day 2: Drive to Lake Mburo

Early morning pick up from your hotel and drive to Lake Mburo. Stopover at the Equator for the water experiment and photos at Kayabwe. Then proceed to the park for lunch thereafter go for a boat ride. During the boat ride expect to see hippos, crocodiles and different bird species. Later embark on a short evening game drive to see zebras, topis and buffaloes. Dinner and overnight at Eagle’s nest (B.L.D)

Day 3: Safari on foot – Bwindi

In the morning you will join the ranger on a walking safari in Lake Mburo. This safari gives you the opportunity to see animals at a close range. Expect to see zebras, topi, giraffes and water bucks. Then return to the lodge for breakfast, check out and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. Arrive in the evening and check into your lodge at Buhoma community rest camp(B.L.D) for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and Batwa pygmies

After break fast drive to the park briefing area for gorilla trekking guidelines; allocation of gorilla trekking groups according to the available gorilla families to be tracked. After briefing join the park ranger in search for the mountain gorillas. On finding them, you will spend an hour observing, taking photographs and video of these amazing gentle giants. Return to the briefing area for lunch and later visit the Batwa pygmies in their new homesteads. Take time to learn their way of life. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Buhoma community rest camp(B.L.D)

Day 5: Drive to Queen

After breakfast bid farewell to the land of mountain gorillas and drive to Queen Elizabeth via Ishasha area. As you drive through Ishasha look out for the tree climbing lions in the fig trees. Check in to your lodge and head out for an evening game drive. Expect to see elephants, lions and buffaloes. Dinner and overnight at Simba safari camp (B.L.D)

Day 6: Game and Boat ride

Take an early morning game drive to see the early risers like elephants, buffaloes and warthogs. Then return to the lodge for hot lunch. In the afternoon you will go for a relaxing boat ride on Kazinga channel. Expect to see hippos, buffaloes as well as different bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Simba Safari camp (B.L.D)

Day 7: Transfer to Kibale Forest

Check out of your lodge after breakfast and drive to Kibale national park. Check into your lodge for lunch. Thereafter go for a nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary; which is a birder’s haven with about 138 species and 8 species of primates. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Kibale forest camp. (B.L.D)

Day 8: Chimpanzee tracking – Transfer to Murchison falls

After breakfast drive to Kanyanchu visitor centre for briefing about chimpanzee tracking. Thereafter join the park rangers as you track habituated chimpanzees in the forest. You will take an hour observing, taking photos and videos of these apes. After the adventure, drive to Murchison falls national park. Check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Heritage safari lodge. (B.L.D)

Day 9: Game drive and Boat cruise

Go for an early morning game drive. Expect to see elephants, hippos, giraffes and water bucks. If lucky you will see lions and leopard. Have lunch and later go for a relaxing boat cruise on the Murchison falls. During the boat cruise expect to see hippos, Nile crocodiles and water birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Heritage safari lodge. (B.L.D)

Day 10: Departure-

Check out of your lodge after breakfast and drive back to Kampala. Stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary to track rhinos at an extra cost of $50  per person. Then drive to Kampala and go on a shopping spree at the craft market on Buganda Road. Later drive to the airport in time to catch your flight back home.
